Pet Expo at Arlington Park Pics

The DH and I wore out our legs walking around at the Pet Expo at Arlington Park on Saturday. All kinds of critters there, but mostly dogs. Very heartbreaking to see so many dogs available at rescue organizations, lots of them purebreads. The economy is really hurting these poor dears. We would have loved to take some of them home, but Rascal is enough for us to handle. Anyway, enjoy the pics. Do you have a dog or cat or an exotic pet? Please share

  1. I love the snakes and reptiles. We have cats but I kept pet rats for years.

  2. Hi Morgan,

Great pics. It is hard to keep pets properly when money gets tight. Our ten year old dog goes in this thursday to get a tooth pulled- estimated cost...$600.

We love him but the cost of pets means my two dogs are my limit.

    Cheers!

  3. I love animals. We only have two cats and one dog, and for now that is the way it's going to stay. We went on Tuesday to visit my friend's mother, and she has emus, horses, geese, greyhounds... it's like a farm/zoo.

  5. It would be dangerous for me to wander the area - I'd want to take them all home! Yes, the poor economy has really hurt the animal world as people abandon their pets when they can no longer afford them. At the same time, I know some people sho love their animals so much, that they will go without food just to be sure their pets are fed.

We have two black cats, Rocko & Spunky, and they were dumped near our house when only three months old. By the time they were four months old, they'd taken a trip to the vet and were officially our new indoor kitties. (You invest $350 in something, you're not letting it get away, either!) As my husband says, we did our part in adopting two strays...

Just got a calico cat - nothing exotic. When I was younger I dreamed of having a black panther for a pet. Never happened, raising kids and all - wife was scared of the idea and there ARE horror stories of wild animals that appear domesticated and then BAM the instinct takes over and little baby Johny becomes lunch.

Looks like a great and fun expo!

  7. Have two cats - and a dog until yesterday. Husband computed it cost over $2000 in vet bills last year. Now one cat probably needs a leg operation. I'm not going to add up the food cost. We also have turtles.
