Tax Man is Coming

Please tune in to my Blog Talk Radio show today at 4pm Illinois (Daylight Savings Time) at http://blogtalkradio.com/booksandblogs

I've put off balancing my checkbooks and doing other mundane matters to keep my finances straight. It's finally caught up with me. I spent all day and evening entering numbers into the computer, so I can get one of my checkbooks to balance. I'm finally done. I've got another to do tomorrow.

Then, I need to get all my writing expenses organized. All this needs to be done by next Saturday for the accountant so she can work on it on time for the filing deadlines for Federal and State taxes.

What about you? Are you so organized you don't have to go through this kind of hell?
Please share.

  1. You're in good company. Here's my two cent on taxes and record keeping. http://murderby4.blogspot.com/2009/02/what-every-author-should-know-but-may.html

  2. I don't know that I'm so organized, but I use Quicken and TurboTax, which makes it fairly easy. What really bogs me down is Schedule D. My wife and I have separate brokerage accounts, and I did a lot of trading (and losing) last year. Since I hardly make tons of money on my books, Schedule C is the least difficult.

Yep - totally organized and well ahead of the game. No hell here, except for having to pay the damned taxes.

  4. No, I am not organized in that area. Everything's together, but not written up. Gotta get ready.

  5. As usual I'll wait until April 14 and then panic! Guess that means I'm not organzied. Sigh.

  6. Actually, this is the first year that I have not organized and gotten my taxes done by the end of January. I'm so ashamed.

  7. Girl, you opened the door that I had locked, put boxes in front of and swore not to go near until I got good and ready to do so. Now, I of course had all my ducks in a row and wrote a list of all that I wanted to claim. Why was I shoving it into a place where I would keep it locked up? Because I hate having to go through it all even though my tax man just takes my folder of goodies and my hand written deduction list, smiles and it takes him fifteen minutes to put everything together and I am on my way. Sorry, but it took me one whole month to think about it, two weeks to get off my butt, and two days to pull it all off. I itemize and it was sheer hell to get it all together. Of course next year will be a whole different story because I was terminated from my job and I won't be able to claim zilch...maybe...hehe!

    Aren't you glad you asked?
