They're Back!

I hadn't seen them in a while and wondered if they'd reappear. I kind of thought they would, since they usually do.

Sure enough, I spotted them on my way to the train station this morning. I don't like them very much, but I have to admit they're usually very industrious. I guess there's a lesson to be learned from them. They seem to usually have a system going and get things done.

Here they are, up above, shown on one of the sidewalks, going about their business. Can you tell what they are? Have you seen any lately? Do you have any stories about them to share?

  1. Ants?
If so I lived in a rented flat once that had real problems with them. At one point we were practically had to hoover our way through the living room for a few weeks in summer.

  2. The goggas (bugs)look too big to be flees so I'll also go with ants. We really can learn lessons from them; I love it when we come across the old, old anthills in the bushveld. It's just so amazing to look at the hills, some over 100 years old, and you can see the new red clay "patchwork" that they've done to maintain their colony. Mother Nature is amazing.

  5. Ants are one of the bains of our house and garden. Paid for terminex to sort those out and the little visitors the lady downstairs is having. The ants needless to say have taken over the front garden again despite the treatment and then the re treatment. With them you just can't win.

Yep, the billions of industrial little crawlers are creeping up and out and all over the place here in springtime Michigan, too. :)

  8. I discovered ants just yesterday by my driveway. Sorry, but they are headed for the Great Beyond. Why? Well, next they're in the garage, then the house, then the food, then...well, you see the progression.

The ants go crawling one by one...

  9. I'm going with ants too.

For my daughter's preschool art show, I worked with the students to create parodies of three of Doreen Cronin's (Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type) books. Using Diary of a Fly, we created Diary of an Ant.

    Neat topic.

They have to be ants. We had problems with them when we lived in the country. We still do in town but not to the same extent.

  11. I'd say definitely ants! We have a problem here with them right now -not a really bad problem as we've had some years in the past, but there are enough of them coming in through the basement and into the bathroom to be annoying.
But Sunday afternoon, as my son and I were planting flowers on the graves of my Mom and Dad and Clate was digging up the earth, he looked down and spied a gazillion ants in the ground -not black ants though but those mean little buggers, red ants! My granddaughter was with us, wanting to "help" Uncle Clate put the flowers in the ground and he had to shoo her away, for fear she'd stick her hand in and have them all swarming up and own her arms -as well as his too. So, I took the spade we had with us, and pulled the dirt back and held it back from the hole where he wanted to plant a couple flowers so he could hurry and set them in place and then, I gently smoothed the dirt back in place with the little shovel, trying not to disrupt those little beings any more than we already had!

  12. Ah, the joy of ants! Do you have normal ants or fire ants? I discovered the joy of fire ants when I moved to Texas.
