How Do You Connect?

I was overjoyed to get back to my DSL when I got home from vacation. I missed the speed so much.

There are drawbacks to DSL, since nothing's perfect. Last night I wanted to go online, but that didn't happen because it was down. My modem which should have been a steady green, turned orange, then red, both very bad signs. Still, I'd rather use DSL than cable, since I can go wireless in various spots of my house and at other locations in the area.

When I was in Wisconsin, I used my network card, but in that neck of the woods, actually the North Woods, my card only got up to 2G, making it very difficult to put graphics up on my blog and open large files. It was very slow.

On the train in the Chicago area, when I use my network card, I can usually pull in 3G, which is faster, but not as good as DSL. I still have trouble at times when I click on the comment section in blogs and it doesn't always come up, or when I try to upload pictures.

What about you? How do you connect? What's good or bad about your method?

I use cable at home, and wifi wherever I can get it on the road with my laptop. Usually no problems with either.

  2. I'm also DSL, wireless, at home. Right now, I'm in a hotel and hooked up to their high speed Internet. It would be nice to have cable at home, but that's not an option for us.

  3. Since I only have this lovely PC to hook up to the 'net, I was finally able to switch over to a high speed connection last year through my tv cable company. I had been wanting to get high speed connectivity for a long time through the telephone company but apparently a certain phone company needs to do a little more work on the "Can you hear me now?" stuff as the section of the village where I live does not have that type of connection available. Such is life in the sticks I guess.
But for the most part, I'm quite happy with the cable connection. Sure beats dial-up hands down!

  4. I'm on DSL here, and will be on DSL again when I move. I hear all kinds of goodness about cable, but I've never had it, so I just don't know. I love DSL. <3

  5. We use cable at home and love it. Once in a while Earthlink is down, but usually there's no issues.

On the road, my husband looks for hot spots with his I-Touch, but I usually don't try to access my accounts. Since I am in front of my computer all the time at home, the road is my one chance to escape!

  6. I use DSL at home and what ever the hotel offers when I'm on the road. I prefer hotels that offer wired connectitons, though, as they seem faster, more reliable, and more secure.

When we first bit the bullet and paid for high speed connections, we went with the local cable company. That was a disaster - they were down more often than up. We switched to the phone company and haven't looked back.

  8. I've used DSL and two versions of cable. I'll stick with cable in this neck of the woods. It's always on and faster than the so called high speed DSL.

  9. I use cable and it seems great to me - I can use my laptop in any room. I don't understand how it works - I consider it magic! Good thing I'm married to a techie!

  10. Great post. Thanks for sharing it with us on my group. I have DSL and love it. I use both my desktop and my laptop throughout the day. I've been sick, so it was nice to have my lappie in bed with me when I had a fever, chills and couldn't sleep. :) Love the pics, too.
