Time Out for Kindle Reading

Our local library has 8 kindles available for its patrons. The DH and I both got on the waiting list, mainly so I could use one. His number was reached and we picked up the kindle on Sunday afternoon. Now I've got a kindle to read for 2 weeks! So far I'm really loving it, especially the current book I'm reading, My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

What about you? Do you own a kindle? Or, have you tried someone else's? Would you like to?

  1. I have one of the original Kindles and love it. My husband sees the ads and says I ought to get the latest version, but I don't see any reason to do that as I'm happy with what I have. The one thing I don't like is the lack of a backlight. Even with a light in the cover, I can't read in low light. I have still my eBookwise for that. But I love the Whispernet.

  2. Don't know if I'll ever go completely to reading ebooks on a reader.
Never tried a Kindle, but wouldn't pass up a free Sony Reader.

  3. I keep saying I don't want one, but I have a feeling if I actually tried one, I might change my mind. By the way, I thought My Sister's Keeper was an excellent book.

  4. I would love to have one some day. It's great you can rent them from the library. Hopefully they will purchase e-books from more authors than NYT Bestsellers! :)

  5. I'm going to have to check my library! It never dawned on me that they might have a Kindle.

There's something nice about holding and owning a real book, but I'm all about digital. And, since I recently hurt my hands, it might be easier to read in bed with a Kindle.

  6. I have asked Santa Claus to bring me a Kindle. I don't like ebooks, but the reality is that there are some books I would like to read that are only available electronically. In addition, the few times authors have sent me ebooks to review, they have had to wait a great deal longer because I read in the tub each night and rarely want to sit at my PC to read a book after working on it all day.

We'll see if Santa grants my wish.

  7. If I want to, I can also purchase kindle books for $9.99 and put them on the library kindle, but I don't feel like doing that. There are enough on there already to choose from.

  8. I LOVE my kindle, love reading ebooks. I whine if a book I want to read isn't in e -- and often don't buy. Just don't have the space for more books!

  9. I love my Kindle too, also wish it had a backlight, but can use my iPhone for that--though I much prefer reading on the Kindle.

  10. Call me a luddite, but Kindle is not yet on my radar. I love good ol' books. But who knows? I didn't get internet til about 2003--swore I had no use for it. Now I don't know what I would do without it.

  11. I love print books, but there is something about the instant gratification of having a book I just read a review of in mere seconds! I am really enjoying my kindle, and I never travel without it!

I think it's fantastic that you library is loaning kindles. Do you "borrow" the book, too? or do you purchase what you wish to read?
