Getting Ready for Vacation

Vacation is fun, but getting ready is not fun. It's so hard to decide what to bring with. I just know I'll forget something and wish I'd thought of bringing it along.

One year my husband forgot his travelers' checks, another year, one of his pairs of glasses.
I forgot the change purse once for the tollway. That was a while ago. Now we use one of those transponders,or whatever they call it, to sail through. I forgot jeans another year.

What about you? Do you hate packing, too? Have you ever forgotten to bring something with on vacation? Please share.

Not so bad about forgetting stuff when packing. But when I was a young man running my own business I got punished by the amount of work I had to do two weeks before leaving for a one week vacation, and it took 2 or 3 weeks of intensive work to catch up on everything when I got back. Plus I'd be thinking about all I had to do when I got back all during the vacation, which sucked.

Much better now that I'm retired - a lot easier to "be here now" and enjoy the moment.

  2. My husband packs in about two minutes. It takes me about two days and then, when we start out, I can't relax until I remember at least one thing I forgot! It's usually something I don't really need or can buy when I get to where ever it is I’m going, so I sigh with relief and allow myself to slide into vacation mode. Hope you remember everything and have a great vacation.

  3. I'm so anal with checklists that it's rare I forget something.

I enjoy packing - it's the return that I dread! Once unpacked, I cringe at all things I need to catch up on after being gone for a few days.

  5. We travel to the Outer Banks of NC every year and packing is a chore and a half. We take not only clothing, but food and beach stuff, so it takes me days.

I once forgot my pajamas, but since I pack myself and the two girls plus all the food and beach stuff, while my hubby only packs himself, I don't feel too bad about that.

And Diane, I agree, unpacking is so much worse. All that work and nothing to look forward to.
