Who Likes Chocolate?

I saw a flyer in the paper about the 10th Annual Long Grove Chocolate Fest taking place May 1-3. I'll be in Wisconsin then, feeding my other obsession, which is playing slots at Lake of the Torches Casino.

I'll be missing the Chocolate Fest, which is a shame since I do love chocolate. For a while I'd get headaches after eating it, but thank goodness that hasn't happened lately. I discovered some years ago I was hypoglycemic, which appeared to have happened because I'd gone on this great diet where I ate deserts but skimped on regular meals.

To recuperate, for an entire nine months I had to go without sugar, which turned out to be in many more forms than you'd ever guess. Gradually I was able to again indulge in sweets, but with caution. If I eat sugar in the morning, I'm usually tired the rest of the day. My body just can't handle sugar after fasting all night. For a while I missed my usual breakfast of chocolate long john and coffee with sugar, but I've adjusted well over the years.

The important thing is I can still eat chocolate and I love it.

What about you? Do you like chocolate?

  2. I do like chocolate. It doesn't like me. I'm not a fanatic, though. I don't have a problem not eating it. The problem is stopping. The trick is to not have it. Once you start, it's difficult to stop!

  5. I like chocolate - however, I do not eat it!

I stopped eating chocolate about seven years ago. I'd let myself go a bit and my husband and I decided to change our eating habits and implement regular exercise. Since chocolate was a weakness (who can eat just ONE Hershey's Kiss - really?) I decided to give it up all together. Since I am also vegan, thought it was best I removed the last traces of dairy from my diet.
It took four months, but now - I don't miss or crave it. Not even once a month!

My husband has enough of a sweet tooth for the both of us - he's the chocolate lover. I like chocolate fine, but I could live without it.

  8. I like chocolate. Not a huge eater of it like I used to be. I have a sugar thing too. hypoglycemic? Not bad enough for the doctor to worry, I just have to watch the sugar intake.

  12. I do like chocolate -very much! Not quite a chocoholic like my daughter is but I like it a whole lot. Especially the deep dark, bittersweet chocolate! MMMM. Dang, now I'm making myself drool wanting a piece of chocolate like that and there's none in the house! Oh well. I'll have to use one of my substitute loves when chocolate is unavailable -either butter pecan ice cream or a nice big dish of strawberry-revel ice cream! How's that for a makeshift substitution?

  13. I love, love, love dark chocolate. Unbelievably, thankfully, deliciously, it is a health food--a small daily dose does wonders!

  14. Ah yes, I love chocolate, dark and semisweet. My mouth waters at the thought. From time to time when I was working, I would eat chocolate when I needed to boost my spirits.

  16. I only like chocolate when the sun shines, and when the sun doesn't shine. I can't eat it like I used to; if I eat too much, I simply pass out. And if I eat too much without eating anything else, I get a migraine headache - not fun.

A lady I used to work with bought a Hershy choc bar every Monday (remember the bars that were divided into even pieces - plain milk choc) and every day at lunch she'd break off ONE PIECE and eat it. She'd put the rest in her desk for the next day. I didn't understand her. I still think she was Martian.
