Worms

Today is supposed to be worm day, so I thought it appropriate to blog about them. There are good and bad worms. After a rain, sometimes you'll see them crawling on the sidewalks. Those are good worms. The birds are happy to eat them. Fishermen love to collect them for live bait.

There's also creepy worms like maggots, that are really gross to look at.

Anyway, unless you've been in seclusion lately, you probably know what this post is leading up to. I dare not say the name for fear it may go on the attack. A worm is supposed to slither across the Internet today, April 1, and attack computers. Because of the threat, I've scheduled this blogpost early, so I won't have to turn on the computer to make it appear. Whether or not I have enough courage to go online at all today, I'm not sure. You'll know if you see me.

It would be a great challenge for me to go cold turkey and ignore the Internet for one day, but I'm not sure if I can do it.

Since I wrote the above, I found out it doesn't matter if you're online today or not. It could attack you some other day. I may as well tough it out, so here I am again.

Okay, are there any brave souls out there who are reading this blog? If your virus protection is not updated, I suggest you do it right now. Comment first if you wish.

  2. I saw earlier today on the Today Show,in an interview with some kind of computer Guru type person that if you log in and then, try to go to Microsoft.com, if your computer blocks you from accessing that site, then you have been hit by the worm.
So far, so good here. My computer is set up to run my anti-virus stuff and do the updates thing, daily -in the wee hours of the morning. So, I'm assuming then that I am covered in that department and that the little bugger isn't lurking about in the bowels of my computer.

  3. Living in the seclusion of England and not having the luck of watching 'The Today Show' I have to wonder if this is an April Fool's joke :D

    Hmmmm?

  4. I use the free Avast anti-virus service. They sent a message saying if your virus protection is up-to-date and you've kept your Windows security up-to-date, you shouldn't have any problem.

  5. We have updated virus protection AND a firewall!

Nothing has happened at this end...

Of course, I've got a speaking engagement tomorrow morning at the beach and we'll be leaving here soon. So my computer really won't be on much today!

  8. I do not like worms. Yesterday, my cat ate one that she dug up out of the muddy earth. So gross.

  9. I hadn't heard about that, but I don't put much stock in the threats of massive virsus. If someone wanted to do that, they just would.

...And my anti-virus is always updated and my firewall is awesome so maybe that's why I don't worry too much.

As for actual worms, earthworms are cool, the maggot-like ones are gross and make me want to grab the bleach and clean everything in sight, even if I see them outside.
