I Hate Apps - Do You?

I love doing memes or handing out blog awards. They're a great way to network and support fellow bloggers.

I don't know why, but Apps on Social Networks like Facebook and MySpace, and other places, irritate me. I think it's silly to send other members such things as virtual plants and say that will help the environment.

Then you have to pick out what kind of drink to send over. Or answer a quiz, or all kinds of weird crazy games with pirates, vampires and such. As you may guess, I was just over on MySpace and went through a pile of requests to play games. I clicked Ignore on all of them.

Maybe it's because I'm getting old, but I have no patience for such meaningless stuff. Call me a bore, but I'd rather carry on conversations about real things.

What's your opinion? Maybe I'm the only fuddy duddy. Do you like Apps? Or do you also hate them?

  1. The games..ugg! I can't stand them... but the apps, I don't really understand why they're there, especially in facebook. i just don't get the purpose. I'm horrible, i have something like 200 to go through right now, that I ignore. So I'm with you. I don't get the app thing! LOL!

  2. For some reason, I'm kind of liking Facebook's MyFarm. But yes, in general, I hate apps on social media sites and could happily do without them. I've stopped responding to the ones that don't interest me, and strangely enough, the friends who send them to me seem to understand. I occasionally send a "Christmas present" or some silly thing (trying to keep it to those who've sent them to me) as a shorthand way of saying, "Hey, busy day, but I'm thinking of you." I don't really care one way or the other if they reciprocate, but I take it in the same vein if they do. It's part of the Facebook culture, I think, so I don't get too irritated by it anymore. I have about 600 "requests" in Facebook that I'm currently ignoring. ;)

I'm not on Face Book so I don't know anything about that, but I don't have a lot of time to spend playing any kind of game. I work full time and try to write and promote in my spare time.

  4. My daughter tells me the apps are there for kids with too much time on their hands. I just ignore them and people don't seem to mind.

I like Facebook because I actually think it helps you develop closer relationships with people because you see what they're up to and you feel like you know them better. On the other hand, I do get tired of the quizzes and the games. Blogs are probably more informative than Facebook, but I have alot of nieces and nephews who do it, and it's a great way to stay in touch with them. (Great question for us to blog about).

  6. I had no idea what I was supposed to do with those apps and such so I’ve just ignored them and will probably continue to do so!

  7. Omg, I am so glad I'm not the only one feeling that way! What's the point, you know?

Real is always better than virtual. Period.

  9. Count me in as someone who ignores those silly things. Every once in a while I have reciprocated if something didn't seem too silly and I wanted to make contact with someone. I've ended up regretting it because it has always led to more requests!

  10. I ignore all those apps as well! I think that one of the problems with the social sites is that they can waste so much time without accomplishing a thing. I know of a few people who spend a lot of time there but their virtual lives are not so hot. Personally I would rather spend my time getting my real life in order so that I am not using a social network site to give myself the illusion that I am doing well in life.

I use myspace and facebook at ways to promote my writing projects.

  11. I ignore all those Apps too. I just don't have the time to play around. If I'm online it's for a reason.
