Google Is My Friend - Is It Yours?

I don't know about you, but Google is my friend. Google is always there when I need it, that is, unless my Internet is down, but Google can't help that.

All I have to do is go to Google and search for something, and there it is. A few days ago, we had issues with the DH's computer, an old Windows 98 which he prefers not to part with despite my many pleadings. Anyway, we had loaded some new anti virus software and the RAM couldn't handle it. How did we know? It took about 45 minutes for the desktop to show up, then before we could do anything, the monitor shut off.

So, we were in a bind. How could we get the software out when the computer wouldn't let us do anything? I couldn't remember how to get to Safe Mode, but Google knew. I went to my own computer, typed in How to get Safe Mode in Windows 98, and there were all the instructions clear as day and they worked! We got into the Control Panel, the Add/Remove Programs, removed the software, and got out. The computer is working fine again.

Google tells me other things, also. When I type in my name, it gives me a list of where I am on the Internet, along with email alerts. That comes in handy, especially when I find out I'm in spots I didn't know I was in.

I also use Google Analytics to figure out how many people visit my blogs. Oh, you may have guessed it, Blogger which runs my blogs is run by Google.

Yes, Google is my friend. Is it yours, too? What does Google do for you?

  1. That's what I always say! Whenever someone needs to look something up, I always say how Google's my friend - it's where I get the best information. And then there's that great quote in the Twilight movie to back me up: "You can Google it."

  3. Oh, there's so many things I need to know--details for a character's life, definitions of things, writing-related information for the publishing world--I use Google for all of these :).

I'll have to check out my name on google, I never did that before. Somehow I began my entry into the internet on YAHOO and have always remained there.

LOVE Google and could not live without it. I do all (well most) my searching and researching there. Best resource tool ever invented.

You can't beat the power of Google, but I've been growing uneasy since they started Google Book Search. Sure, they're settling the lawsuit, but they've dropped in my opinion a bit.

For lighter use, I prefer Goodsearch since money goes to charity. It's just a shame it can't search as well as Google.

  7. Pretty much I use Goggle for research purposes, but I also have a few alerts set so that I can find out where topics of interest are being posted online.

Yeah, Google's a good friend...and we never get in a fight either. LOL!

  8. I love Google! I use it to research anything and everything, plus I receive several Google alerts daily. And whenever I'm doing a seminar, I always tell attendees that Google is my favorite word and if I don't know the answer to a question, my reply will be "Google!"

  9. Google is my friend.

Google is a great spellchecker when Word and I disagree. (I usually win,)

Google maps always beats out mapquest and traditional paper maps. (I do have one of those in the car though, can't access Google without internet)

I don't know much about all of Google's other things, I stick to searching and the maps.

  10. Yup! Google is my friend, too. I use it for mail, searching, analyzing visitors to my sites, advertising through Google Adwords, verifying keywords, blogging, maps, subscriptions in Google reader, Google alerts to send information automatically to my inbox about topics that interest me - especially those that pertain in some way to my book, let's see... there must be more. Yes, google is an all day every day friend.

BTW if you aren't familiar with google alerts, just this one thing can save you hours of time searching.

  15. Morgan, thanks for your comment on my blog. If you read our book you'll see how it was possible to go through it and come out intact. It's amazing even to us - and we lived it!
