Recycling Blogposts

In this age of going green and saving things, it makes sense to do the same with blogs. After all, we spend a lot of time thinking of what to say and how to say it. Then the post comes out. If you're a daily blogger, it only lasts twenty-four hours before it's replaced.

Those hours on that particular day may coincide with a major news event, a weather happening, like a snowstorm or even a beautiful Spring or Summer day. Maybe life intrusions keep regular readers away from their computers. Whatever the case, the result is the same - an overlooked blog.

The cure for such a condition is recycling. Consider posting your favorite blogposts on Facebook, Myspace, Ning, or maybe one of your group blogs, if you belong to one. First, be sure to update them. You wouldn't want to refer to a past event as if it were still coming up. If you think of better words or phrases, there's no law that says you can't include them this time.

When you're done editing and your post is up, you might be pleasantly surprised by the response it receives. You'll be glad it finally got the attention your hard work deserved.

Have any of you thought about or recycled blogposts? Will you try now? Please share.

Yep. I recycle the exceptional posts. I use them for guest posts on other blogs, cross post them on social sites, etc. And yes you should of course update them if they contain timely info.

Absolutely... The strategically recycled blog post is an attention getter and will not only drive traffic your way, but can also gain you new readers as well. A timeless and amusing/interesting blog post has 1001 uses.

At a loss for an interesting tweet? A recycled blog post is a healthy and nutritious brain snack for 140 character crowd. When properly prepared, they come back with LOL's on their screens and "more please" on the tips of their fingers. If they are really polite little tweeters, they'll even share with their friends, which is an added bonus.

And best of all... It saves energy.

    ;)

  3. I haven't simply because I forgot about doing this but I hear of bloggers doing this all the time. But, how do you post a post at Facebook? Or do you mean just link to it?

  4. Recycling was a tip I received from author Ellen Hopkins. She told me she frequently does only one post and then moves it around to all of her sites.

  5. I have done that. Not often. But I think I may do more of it. Sometimes I've rewritten something I wrote nine years ago for Doing It Write and used it in my blog. Since I've doing the newsletter for ten years now, there are columns I swear I don't remember writing! ;-)

  7. Oh yeah, I do it all the time. If there is an article that works well on The Aspiring Author and at The Book Connection, then I will always recycle it.

  9. Excellent suggestion, Morgan. I haven't done it often, but I've thought about it. Does that count? ;- )

Now, though, I will follow your good advice.

  11. If you have a wordpress blog you should dl and install the Old Post Promoter plugin.

    See here: http://www.blogtrafficexchange.com/old-post-promoter/

Does the "recycling" for you automatically from your posts and you can select which categories get repromoted and which do not.
